Sims 4 Sanrio Legacy Challenge Part 1

Sul sul, simmers! After playing through a legacy challenge for the first time, I’ve gained the confidence (read: hubris) to create my own. I’m combining the Sims 4 with my other great passion: cute Sanrio characters. It was impossible to narrow down just ten characters to inspire the generations for this challenge, so consider this part one of two… if not three! Read on for a few additional challenges and the inspiration behind my first Sanrio Legacy Challenge.

(Characters included in part one are Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Hangyodon, Badtz-Maru, My Melody, Tuxedo Sam, Pochacco, Gudetama, My Sweet Piano, and Little Twin Stars. Check out part two if you’re looking for Big Challenges, Cinnamoroll, Littleforestfellow, Usahana, Pompompurin, Wish Me Mell, Retsuko, Pekkle, Chococat, and Kuromi.)

Hello Kitty

Of course I had to start this challenge off with the star of Sanrio herself: Kitty White, otherwise known as Hello Kitty. This icon dreams of being a poet or pianist, but I settled on the writing career for this generation because there are many other musically talented Sanrio characters to inspire future generations. I also tried to incorporate some of Kitty’s other loves, such as baking, her friends, and her pet. All in all, we’re starting off with a sweet sim to represent a beloved character.

Keroppi

Next, we have a froggy friend who loves gaming, singing, and staying active! With so many species of frogs in the Sims 4, what better opportunity could there be to collect them than this? An additional challenge for this generation is to avoid selling any items you dig up, harvest, or otherwise collect; instead, build a room in your home dedicated to displaying your collection (you may want to eat or cook with items you harvest though).

Hangyodon

Though this fishy friend may be shy and lonely, he’s a romantic nonetheless. Surely, someone has to fall in love with this piscean comedian--it’s just a matter of how many blind dates it takes! Though the challenge already calls for at least three of such dates, an additional challenge is to keep pursuing blind dates until you find your sim’s perfect match. To take it a step further, you can attempt to only increase your social needs while on these dates (until you find true love, of course).

Badtz-Maru

Here’s where the real challenge begins for those of us who solely play good sims: Bad Badtz-Maru. Based on a character with dreams akin to the presidency or CEO of everything, this sim is on a slightly less spectacular trajectory as a shady business owner. But hey, becoming the founder of a business is still impressive, and it leaves your sim with more time to go fishing than running for president or seeking world domination would. Can’t a bad guy have a hobby?

My Melody

With a scammy business owner for a parent, it’s a miracle that our fifth generation sim turned out so wholesome. My Melody is just that sweet of a gal! For every ounce of mischief that this sim’s shady parent got up to, this generation will push back with tons of support for their friends, neighbors, community--heck, the world itself! This sim will clean up the mistakes of the previous generation and foster a better future.

Tuxedo Sam

The ever stylish and well-spoken Tuxedo Sam attended university, and so will your sim. With a Fine Arts degree, your sim will become a knowledgeable Style Influencer in no time! Show love to your friends by knitting them clothing, and maybe knit some for yourself.

One interesting tidbit from the Hello Kitty Wiki points out that Tuxedo Sam has respect for Santa, which is the reason I included building a friendship with Clement Frost as a goal. Are you brave enough to take their relationship to the next level though? Will Father Winter also become Pochacco’s dad?

Pochacco

This athletic pup calls for a true athlete of a sim. Make friends at parks and gyms, and then bring the gym (and your friends) back home to you! Hopefully you have some money saved up to make an impressive gym that’ll hold all your bros. Plus, you’ll probably want to set up a wellness section of your gym for your future child. It’ll be the only equipment that kid touches.

Gudetama

This generation is inspired by a lazy, lovable egg. This egg is so lazy that your sim can’t even pursue a career! If you get desperate for cash, there’s a low effort way to make money from your phone: snap some selfies and sell them from your inventory. After that? Probably nap time.

My Sweet Piano

This sweet sheep loves to play piano and craft flower crowns, which translates to the piano, flower arranging, and gardening skills as this generation’s hobbies. This sim may want to brush up on their parenting skills as well in preparation of two babies.

Little Twin Stars

The tenth generation comes with a choice of which sibling to focus on: handy crafter Kiki or sensitive artist Lala. As a challenge you can keep the siblings living together, manage both of their lives, and maintain a close or supportive family dynamic.

A small cosmetic detail that I paid attention to with this generation was the hair color of the Little Twin Stars. Kiki is often depicted with blue hair, which is how I portrayed him as he grew up, but sometimes can be seen with brown hair, which I used for him as a child. Similarly, I gave Lala her usual pink hair as she aged, but gave her blonde hair when she was younger as she is sometimes seen with.

If you’ve made it this far into the game, holy smokes, you might just be the second person to complete my Sanrio Legacy Challenge--the other person being myself! Congratulations and thank you so much for being here!

If you’re not a fan of some of the generations and want some other options, I suggest looking at part two of this challenge. Maybe you will prefer it, or you could make a Frankenstein monster mashup of your ten favorite generation options with the twenty that are available between parts one and two.

I drew much of my characterization from their personalities within shows and games, as well as their character profiles on the Hello Kitty Wiki and the 2025 Sanrio Character Ranking. While nearly all assigned traits had a reason behind them, I may have taken a creative liberty or two. If you have any thoughts, questions, or recommendations, I’d love to hear from you!
